Research at the Department of Rheumatology focuses on areas of strategic importance for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of rheumatic diseases. Research spans from basic science to clinical and epidemiological studies.

The department has a clinical trial unit performing randomised controlled trials, cohort follow-up studies of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Moreover, the department has access to biobanks (DNA, plasma/serum, leukocytes), and imaging and clinical databases such as CIMESTRA, OPERA, DanAct.

National and regional databases for diagnosis, prescriptions, and laboratory data obtained through collaboration with the Department of Clinical Epidemiology allow us to analyse drug survival, adverse events, and compliance.
