The Head Consultant and Head Biomedical Laboratory Scientist constitute the management and are responsible for the overall legal, financial and strategic matters of the department. 

The department employs approximately 140 staff members including medical doctors, molecular biologists, biomedical laboratory scientists, nurses and medical secretaries. Some employees perform cross-disciplinary tasks such as quality management, IT-management, coordination and administration.

National and international research and development in transfusion, transplantation immunology, therapeutic immunology, and immunological diagnostics are essential elements of department activities, as well as education of doctors, biomedical laboratory scientists and medical secretaries.
