Reinforcement of the abdominal wall with biological or synthetic mesh after breast reconstruction with the pedicled TRAM flap
Department of Plastic and Breast Surgery, Mette Eline Brunbjerg
Aim
To minimize short and longterm complications at the abdominal donor-site and thereby contribute to fast and complete rehabilitation of women undergoing mastectomy and breast reconstruction with the pedicled TRAM-flap. This is dony by identifying the most optimal method for reinforcement of the abdominal donor-site by comparing two types of mesh.
Material and methods
Thirty women admitted for immediate or delayed breast reconstruction with the pedicled TRAM-flap are included in this prospective study. The patients are randomized to reinforcement of the abdominal donor-site with either a biological mesh (Strattice, n=15) or a synthetic mesh (Prolene, n=15). The follow-up period is two years.
