The department is internationally acclaimed for its highly specialised diagnostic services,comprehensive research and clinical development activities.

The department is particularly renowned for the development and use of quantitative electromyography and nerve conduction studies with near-nerve needle technique in the examination of patients with neuromuscular disorders. In addition, state-of-the-art facilities are used for the diagnosis of patients with disorders of the central nervous system, including epilepsy and sleep disorders.

Research is strongly integrated in our clinical practice. Focus is on improving the diagnosis of patients with diseases of the central and peripheral nerve system and we obtain new pathophysiological knowledge through a wide range of approaches including large multi-centre databases.

The department has a close collaboration with other European neurophysiological departments in the ESTEEM project concerning quality assurance in clinical neurophysiology. In addition several doctors of foreign nationalities work or conduct research at the department.
