At 10 a.m. the first patients were welcomed at the new emergency room at Aarhus University Hospital and at the same time the old facilities closed for new patients.
- This is the only hospital in Danmark with two staffed emergency rooms – but we only do this today. It is exciting and it works, say Ole Mølgaard, Head Consultant.
The new emergency room welcomed five patients in the first 45 minutes; three patients at the emergency room and two at the trauma centre.
- No patients with serious disease or serious injuries have arrived yet. It has been great to open the new facilities. All employees are happy and many have worked hard to be ready. It is like at party where you can finally welcome the first ”guests”, says Ole Mølgaard.

The old emergency room is closed
Today both the new and the old emergency room will be staffed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The old emergency room received 25 patients before closing at 10 a.m. today. The treatment of these patients will be completed at the old facilities before 3 p.m.
- We have chosen to relocate the emergency room in the morning because we normally have fewer patients at this time. Be keeping both emergency rooms open today we hope the patients can finish their treatment at the location where they arrived, says Ole Mølgaard.
On weekdays the emergency room is typically busy between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The emergency room and the emergency doctor services have been relocated on 29 May at 10 a.m. to:
Aarhus University Hospital
Palle Juul-Jensens Boulevard 161
8200 Aarhus N
The relocation of the emergency room and the emergency doctor services is a part of a comprehensive relocation where 3,000 employees at Aarhus University Hospital change work place. The hospital gathers the departments involved in treatment of acute patients in new facilities
