Geriatric medicine focuses on diagnosis, assessment and treatment in older patients with complex clinical problems. This may comprise the interaction between the patients’ acute illnesses and chronic disorders, the interaction between the patient's acute illnesses and chronic disorder(s).

  • Awareness of the different symptomatology in young versus older patients

  • Prevention of transfer of the patients between many different departments

Geriatric care requires optimal interdisciplinary and cross-sectional collaboration on many levels

  • At hospitalisation
  • When planning the course during the hospital stay and after in a dialogue with patients and their relatives at discharge from hospital and follow-up visits
