The department is one of two highly specialised centres in Denmark performing secondary cleft lip and palate treatment. We have developed new treatment modalities for bone grafting of the alveolar cleft, and a combined osteotomy and cleft closure of bilateral clefts.
Additionally, we have applied the principle of distraction osteogenesis, including a fixed treatment protocol, for advancement of the retrognathic maxilla.

Our research projects evaluate the treatment outcome of the surgical intervention  and the patient'` perspective? on  the surgical procedures. The stability of distraction osteogenesis is being evaluated.
