After renal transplantation, the patienta are treated with several types of drugs that inhibit the immune system to prevent rejection. The drugs are effective against rejection, but they also have side effects. Among other things, they get steroids (prednisolone tablets) that may increase the risk of diabetes.

In SAILOR trial, the aim is to determine whether a different immunosuppressive treatment, without steroids (prednisolone tablets), may reduce the risk of developing diabetes after renal transplantation.

SAILOR trial is a prospective, randomized, open-label clinical trial including kidney transplant patients. Patients will be randomized before transplantation to either steroid-free immunosuppressive treatment or standard treatment.

SAILOR trial a multi-centre study with PI at Gothenborg University Hospital.
