Overall, the research strategies for Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital apply. Working with research, development and improvement is a basic condition for the clinical work at a university hospital.
Objective
The department is at the highest international level producing results that benefit patients. Staff interests and expertise are developed within a number of areas through broad collaboration.
Management
Department researchers refer to the Department Chair, who is informed about all ongoing and planned projects. The department has a number of senior researchers working independently with own research areas. A nurse responsible for research is employed at the department.
Every second month a laboratory meeting is held where researchers present their plans and provide a status on their projects. This is to for mutual inspiration among researchers and to ensure an adequate use of laboratory resources and contribution of users.

Strategy
- We wish to expand our activities within education of researchers with attachment of PhD students and research year students (medical students), but we also wish to stimulate research among clinical staff and to attach experienced researchers to the department, preferably in part-time positions, and we welcome international researchers
- We strive to recruit staff taking an active interest in research and collaboration, both among doctors and other groups of healthcare staff
- We take our starting point in clinical problems to ensure that research activities benefit our patients with renal diseases
- Clinical training and education of all staff groups, including medical students, is to the widest extent possible research-based
- We support department journal clubs and scientific meetings as a source of inspiration and a part of the scientific schooling and thinking, which will impact on all department activities
- We strive to make coherent research projects providing synergy such as applying the same trial participants, animal models and data for more purposes
- We wish to stimulate research and development through interprofessional activities in the department and collaboration with other research institutions at Aarhus University Hospital and internationally
- We emphasise development in research as well as personal development in a supporting working environment
- We wish to ensure the generation of new knowledge made available to the public by publishing and implementing published knowledge in clinical practice as fast as possible.
