We have a long-standing interest in and are highly specialised in diagnosis and treatment of patients with interstitial lung diseases and other rare respiratory diseases in the Centre for Interstitial Lung Diseases in West Denmark. The department is one of three Danish highly specialised centres and one of two centres treating patients with very rare lung diseases. We are also responsible for lung transplantation evaluation and follow-up after transplantation.
The department receives approximately 300 new referrals each year for diagnosis of interstitial lung diseases and approximately 30 referrals for lung transplantation evaluation or other surgical treatment for COPD such as lung volume reduction surgery or bronchial valves.
We have a dynamic team with weekly radiology conferences mostly on high resolution computed tomography scans of the lungs (HRCT) with dedicated pulmonary radiologists. Each month multidisciplinary interstitial lung disease conferences are held with participation of radiologists, pathologists and pulmonologists. Every six weeks there is a multidisciplinary conference in the Centre for Pulmonary Vascular Diseases with participation of cardiologists, radiologists, pathologists, rheumatologists and pulmonologists on patients with pulmonary hypertension. We also have conferences with the ophthalmologists on patients with uveitis, mostly sarcoidosis patients. Finally, we collaborate closely with the transplant unit at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, including weekly video conferences.
