In spring 2016, 51-year-old Charlotte Beermann Staal was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Part of the treatment consisted of internal radiation therapy, or brachytherapy, where only the tumour is radiated and not the surrounding tissue.

Already three months after the last radiation therapy session Charlotte was told the tumour was gone.

Aarhus University Hospital is a pioneer in image-guide brachy-therapy using magnetic resonance imaging  to precisely locate and direct radiation therapy. The method is spreading to the rest of the world and today experts from Aarhus University Hospital train Danish and foreign colleagues in how to use of the technique at their own hospitals.
