At Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark nurses perform an ultrasonography examination of almost all patients with thrombosis in the brain.

This examination will reveal if there are constrictions of the major arteries in the brain. Approximately 10% of all patients with brain thrombosis have constrictions of these arteries.

Previously, these constrictions were not always detected as there has been no tradition for systematic ultrasonography of brain arteries in Denmark.

New and improved treatments make it relevant now to perform routine ultrasonography in these patients.
