A visit by the Danish Prime Minister, guided tours and a concert by one of the famous local musicians Steffen Brandt were all part of the opening of the new facilities at Aarhus University Hospital

Seven years ago, the Chairman of the Regional Council in Central Denmark Region, Bent Hansen, cut the first sod of the largest hospital construction work in Denmark. Today, you can hardly recognise the open fields where the ultramodern hospital facilities have now been built.

Strung between two IV stands, the Danish Prime Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Bent Hansen cut the tape with a pair of surgical scissors on February 27th.

"These facilities gather professional competences under one roof to the benefit of both patients and staff; it is no longer necessary to be transported between different addresses", said Bent Hansen.

Lars Løkke Rasmussen added:

"We open the doors to the largest hospital construction work in Denmark ever. This hospital will be the largest and most modern university hospital in Northern Europe".

The last guest of the day was kept a secret. The local musician Steffen Brandt, known for his ironic, though warm-hearted, lyrics entertained the guests.

Facts:

The hospital construction work in Aarhus is the first and largest of the 16 planned hospital constructions in Denmark.

The new facilities will gather all activities of Aarhus University Hospital under one roof; today, activities are located at four addresses.

The first departments have already moved to the new facilities and by 2019 all departments have moved.
