As a part of the overall strategy, Aarhus University Hospital supports research within all health professions. At Department of Cardiology, the framework for research and development is Patient involvement in specialised cardiovascular healthcare.

Danish doctors have a long tradition for communicating research in English whereas this is relatively new to nurses. Thus, nurses at Department of Cardiology have focus on communication in English to improve the quality but also to provide a sense of security when communicating research in English.

A systematic approach has been implemented where nurses seek advice and support from a language coach when communicating research results orally and in writing.

The level has increased
The Head Nurse at Department of Cardiology Rikke Degn explains that this systematic approach has increased the professional level within research and development among the nursing staff.

Anne Mette Kristiansen, development and implementation nurse at Department of Cardiology says,

”It is of great importance to me to receive help and support with my English. It gives me a sense of security when I submit abstracts to international conferences and make oral presentations. I have to act professionally because I both represent my department but also Aarhus University Hospital”.
