FMT
FMT is an emerging treatment that is effective in patients with recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection. The infection is a major health care burden in all Western societies, and stool banks and treatment facilities are being established in most countries. This challenges regulation and dissemination of this treatment that balances on the borderline between tissue and drug. Moreover, experimental indications for using FMT are being tested in clinical trials and include decompensated liver cirrhosis, multidrug resistant organism carrier status, irritable bowel syndrome, and Parkinson’s disease.

CEFTA
Centre for faecal microbiota transplantation (CEFTA) was established at Aarhus University Hospital in 2018 following a €2.3m investment from Innovation Fund Denmark. The aim of CEFTA is to use intestinal microbiota to treat life-threatening diseases. CEFTA is hosting the summit meeting on 26 August 2021.
UEG stool bank working group
The United European Gastroenterology stool bank working group aims to harmonise the use of FMT throughout Europe and has recently published a consensus report that describes all aspects of routine and experimental use of FMT.
The organizing committee behind the summit meeting is anchored in the stool bank work group and count Christian L Hvas (Aarhus, Denmark), Maria Vehreschild (Köln/Frankfurt, Germany), and Josbert Keller (Haag, the Netherlands).
