First author and postdoc at DCPT, Jintao Ren, and co-authors were honoured with the most cited-award 2020-2023 from Acta Oncologica during this year’s annual meeting of Danish Society for Clinical Oncology.

The co-authors of the article are professor, Consultant Jesper Grau Eriksen, Dept. of Oncology, Aarhus University Hospital, associate professor at DCPT Jasper Nijkamp, and professor at DCPT, Stine Sofia Korreman. The award consists of a prize of 15.000 SEK, a diploma, and of course the honour.

The award was presented at the 2024 annual meeting of Danish Society for Clinical Oncology (DSKO) on Saturday the 6th of April. As part of the session, Jintao Ren gave a presentation of the content of the publication and its perspectives.

What the many citations and Jintao Rens presentation emphasises is that the deep learning methods developed by the team are already translated and applied in clinical practice. The PROSA-GTV prospective trial (Prospective RandOmized Single-blinded Auto-contouring of GTV) evaluates the potential benefits of using tumour auto-contouring in head and neck cancer based on the findings.

'It was a great pleasure for me on behalf of the co-authors to receive this award – especially in front of colleauges from all across the country. We are very happy to see that our findings on deep learning methods for GTV delineation and segmentation have received such high attention. Our deep learning breakthroughs go beyond mere automation; they are steps towards our ultimate goal to assist clinicians in cancer treatment', says Jintao Ren.
