BETA.HEALTH
Explore BETA.HEALTH - Denmark’s national health innovation platform.
What is BETA.HEALTH
BETA.HEALTH is Denmark’s national platform for hospital-based innovation. The programme supports healthcare professionals and researchers in developing and testing new solutions that address real challenges in healthcare and improve patient care.
Many innovations originate from clinical practice, where healthcare professionals experience unmet needs in diagnostics, treatment, patient pathways or workflows. BETA.HEALTH helps transform these ideas into solutions that can be validated and implemented in the healthcare system.
The programme is developed by the five Danish university hospitals, Rigshospitalet, AUH, OUH, SUH & AAUH, and funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. By providing funding, structured innovation support and access to a national network of experts and partners, BETA.HEALTH strengthens the ability of hospitals to translate clinical ideas into real-world healthcare solutions.
What we offer
BETA.HEALTH supports hospital-led innovation projects with both funding and hands-on innovation support.
Selected projects receive grants of DKK 500,000 or DKK 1,000,000, depending on the maturity of the project. The funding can be used for activities such as prototype development, testing, clinical validation, data collection and collaboration with external partners etc.
In addition to funding, project teams gain access to expertise and support that helps them develop their idea into a solution that can be implemented in healthcare. This includes guidance on areas such as regulatory considerations, clinical validation, implementation pathways and collaboration with industry or external stakeholders.
The BETA.HEALTH Accelerator
Projects that receive funding become part of the BETA.HEALTH Accelerator, a structured programme designed to support hospital-based innovation projects from early idea or prototype towards validated healthcare solutions.
Through workshops, expert mentoring and tailored support, project teams work systematically with the key aspects required to move a healthcare innovation forward. This includes refining the clinical need, developing and testing the solution, planning validation studies and preparing for implementation in clinical practice.
The accelerator also connects project teams with a national network of clinicians, innovation specialists, researchers and industry partners who can contribute knowledge, feedback and collaboration opportunities.
The goal is not only to develop new solutions, but to ensure that innovations can be implemented and create value for patients, healthcare professionals and the healthcare system.
How to apply
Healthcare professionals employed at Danish public hospitals, pre-hospital services or psychiatric facilities can apply for support through BETA.HEALTH.
Applications should be based on a clearly defined clinical need and describe how the proposed solution could improve patient care, clinical workflows or healthcare outcomes.
Projects can apply for DKK 500,000 or DKK 1,000,000, depending on the stage of development. Applications are evaluated based on criteria such as the clinical relevance of the problem, the potential impact of the solution, the feasibility of the project and the strength of the project team.
