The ENIGMA of small vessel disease - exploring lifestyle risk factors, DNA and imaging characteris-tics of small vessel disease, stroke and cognitive decline: This consecutive follow-up study is planned in collaboration with department of public health AU and CFIN. The aim of the ENIGMA study is to identify new strategies to prevent, diagnose and modify the progression of vascular dis-ease and subsequent dementia. The study will include a PhD study focusing on physical activity as brain protection and an imaging PhD study exploring neuro-imaging microvascular changes during follow-up first year.

Study period: 01.01.2021-31.12.2024.

Funding: Central Denmark Research fund (4.5 mill Dkr) and Novo-Nordisk Foundation (2 mill DKr)
