Being the biggest Danish neurophysiological department outside the capital area, the department of Clinical Neurophysiology at Aarhus University Hospital is internationally acclaimed for its highly specialised diagnostic services and comprehensive research and clinical development activities.

The department is particularly renowned for the development and use of quantitative electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) with near-nerve needle technique in the examination of patients with neuromuscular disorders. In addition, state-of-the-art facilities are used for the diagnosis of patients with disorders of the central nervous system, including epilepsy and sleep disorders.

Research is strongly integrated in our clinical practice. Focusing on improving the diagnosis of patients with diseases of the central and peripheral nerve systems as well as obtaining new pathophysiological knowledge, a wide range of different approaches including large multi-centre databases are applied.

The department has a close collaboration with European centres in the ESTEEM and SCORE projects, as well as with other Danish neurophysiological departments in several projects. In addition many doctors and guest researches of foreign nationalities are affiliated with the department.
