The Department of Neurosurgery has three major focus areas: To provide a state-of-the-art diagnostic services to patients, to deliver high quality scientific research independently and in close collaboration with partners at Aarhus University and at the clinical departments at Aarhus University Hospital, and to provide high quality pre- and post-graduate education and training.

The Department of Neurosurgery collaborates with university hospitals and universities in Europe and overseas. The international exchange of ideas and treatments is bridged by the exchange of professionals between departments and by collaboration with international partners.

The Department of Neurosurgery conducts research within all main areas of neurosurgery and has published and patented within the area of neuromodulation and has developed new stimulation electrodes for treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

The department has been the driving force behind the Aarhus University Hospital Neuromodulation Database, which is aiming to become an international standard.
