The Department of Surgery has a high research activity with main interests in translational research in functional bowel disorders and functional outcome and survival of most of our treatment regimens within the colorectal and breast-endocrine area. Many studies are performed together with  international collaborators. Research ranges from randomised and clinical trials to epidemiological and molecular biology studies.

The Anal Physiology Clinic is leading internationally in research of sacral nerve stimulations. National studies have emerged through access to national clinical databases and national registries. The various facilities at the department have enabled numerous medical dissertations.
