Acquired deterioration of cognitive functions is a major cause of neurological disease. An active multidisciplinary team in the department is involved in diagnosing and managing dementia disorders but so far with limited time and resources for research. With the increasing number of elderly it is expected that the number of patients with dementia will increase significantly in the future and there is a demand for focus and research support to this area. The team participates in research projects involving imaging in patients with MCI and Alzheimer’s disease, pain in dementia and ongoing clinical trials focusing on new treatments in dementia modulating the pathophysiology.
