Newly born baby

Our obstetric ward has about 5,000 deliveries (including 3% home deliveries) per year. These include all the deliveries in the local uptake area (331,558 inhabitants), extremely preterm deliveries and deliveries of mothers with diabetes mellitus in the Central Denmark Region (1,282,570 inhabitants).

Moreover, the department treats challenges within maternal/fetal medicine for the Western part of Denmark. The department is hosting a knowledge and research center within this area: Center for prenatal diagnosis.

Characteristics and challenges

The ward is characterised by a very high degree of collaboration between obstetricians and midwives. Currently, the challenge is dominated by a transition from inpatient to outpatient management of normal and pathological pregnancies.
