Gynaecology
The department offers a broad range of medical and surgical treatments, including management of bleeding disorders, uterine conditions, ovarian pathologies, and endocrinological diseases. Advanced minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures are widely used. The department also treats pelvic floor disorders and urinary tract conditions.
Within malignant gynaecology, the department is one of four specialised centres in Denmark for the diagnosis and surgical treatment of cancers including cervical, endometrial, ovarian, vulvar, and vaginal cancer. If postoperative radiation or chemotherapy is needed, the patients are referred to the Department of Oncology, Aarhus University Hospital.
Obstetrics
The obstetric unit manages approximately 5,000 deliveries annually, including high-risk pregnancies such as extremely preterm births and pregnancies complicated by diabetes.
The department serves both the local population and functions as a regional referral centre for maternal and fetal medicine in Western Denmark. It also hosts a specialised Center for prenatal diagnosis.
Clinical Approach
Care is characterised by strong interdisciplinary collaboration between obstetricians, midwives, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. A key focus is the ongoing transition toward increased outpatient management of both normal and high-risk pregnancies.
Research and Organisation
The department is actively involved in clinical research, with ongoing projects, PhD programmes, and international collaborations. You will also find profiles of our clinical researcers.
Organisationally, it includes multiple wards and clinics, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and integrated patient care.
