About the department
Department of Plastic and Breast Surgery consists of two sections: Plastic Surgery and Breast Surgery.
The department has a budget of DKK 75.000.000 (2017) and has 100 employees.
In 2016, the department admitted 1,450 patients and carried out 14,600 outpatient consultations. The Department performed 1300 surgeries on both in- and outpatients. The department takes part in or chairs multidisciplinary conferences to ensure patient treatment is fast and at a high international level.
The department collaborates closely with the other departments at Aarhus University Hospital, particulary within Department of Infectious Diseases, Department of Dermatology, Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Department of Neurosurgery, Department of Oncology and Department of Surgery.
The department does not treat burns and and cleft lip and palate. Moreover the department does not perform hand surgery.
The consultants are active board members of the Danish Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, The Nordic Society for Vascular Anomalies, The Danish Breast Surgery Society and the Danish Breast Cancer Cooperative Group (DBCG).
The department and the Research Unit have several international collaborators in Great Britain, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Australia, and the United States.
The department is in charge of the pre-graduate teaching of medical students as well as specialist postgraduate training in plastic- and breast surgery.
