Aim

To contribute to fast and complete rehabilitation of women undergoing breast reconstruction. This is achieved by identifying the most optimal method for implant-based breast reconstruction by comparing two surgical techniques.

Material and methods

Forty patients undergoing immediate implant-based breast reconstruction after skin saving mastectomy was included. Twenty women underwent a one-stage procedure where the breast was reconstructed using a fixed size silicone gel implant and porcine acellular dermal matrix (Strattice). Twenty women underwent a two-stage procedure where the breast was reconstructed  with an expander, which was later replaced with a fixed size silicone gel implant. The follow-up period was two years.
