Causes and Prevention of Thromboembolic Disease in Nephrotic Syndrome

The purpose of the study is to identify new and better treatment to prevent serious thromboembolic events in patients with nephrotic syndrome. The study is divided into 3 substudies where sub-study 1 will identify abnormalities in the coagulation profile in nephrotic syndrome promoting a prothrombotic state; sub-study 2 will describe the effects of low molecular weight heparin on the biochemical coagulation profile in nephrotic syndrome and sub-study 3 will determine the levels of plasma apixaban and its effect on the biochemical coagulation profile in nephrotic syndrome compared to patients with atrial fibrillation and no kidney disease.
