The annual meeting of DCCC Radiotherapy was concluded with a panel discussion on how to ensure future synergy between research and clinic.

On October 5 and 6, Danish and international researchers and clinicians gathered for two big national meetings. The Danish Centre for Particle Therapy was also part of the events that centred around research and new developments within radiotherapy.

DCCC Radiotherapy (DCCC RT) is a Danish national research centre with the aim to provide a platform for research and knowledge sharing within radiotherapy across the country. Various initiatives ensure this, ranging from specific work packages engaging in clinical protocols to online webinars and meetings about new developments. An important forum for sharing knowledge is the annual meeting of DCCC RT that gathers researchers and clinicians who are engaged in radiotherapy.

After a virtual only event in 2020, it was finally possible to gather more than 100 people in Middelfart for this year’s meeting on October 5. The programme included Flash talks with ‘short and sweet’ presentations of new projects and research results, news from work package leaders and a session on patient and public involvement.

DCPT based researchers and clinicians presented ongoing research within proton therapy and related fields, as well as new research projects e.g. within dosimetry, treatment planning and delineation.

BiGART2021: A landmark event with new features
The Acta Oncologica conference on Biology-Guided Adaptive Radiotherapy (BiGART) has a long standing tradition of gathering physicians, physicists, radiobiologists and other scientists with an active interest in the area. For the first time, the conference was organised as a one-day virtual symposium on October 6, where presentations were live streamed from two physical sites; one in Middelfart, Denmark and one in Oslo, Norway. The programme also included live presentations from international researchers in Germany, the UK and Egypt.

The virtual symposium was a special landmark in the history of the conference, which was the 19^th edition of BiGART. The organisers were happy to gather national audiences this year, and are looking forward to the next BiGART conference, where international colleauges hopefully can join the actual conference site.
