Newsweek has ranked the world’s best hospitals in smart technologies. Aarhus University Hospital is number 16 in the world and the third best in Europe.

The American magazine Newsweek in collaboration with the data analyst company Statista Inc. has made a list of the 300 leading hospitals in smart technologies – World’s Best Hospitals 2023’. Smart hospitals are particularly good at using data and technology to improve patient outcomes and perform daily hospital tasks. Aarhus University Hospital is ranked as number 16 in the world – a step up from a ranking as number 19 in 2021.

- This is an important acknowledgement of our dedicated work to implement digital solutions and to ensure connection between our systems to improve patient safety and support work routines. I am extremely proud that our hospital is among the best to implement and take advantage of digital solutions and smart technologies in our patient pathways, says hospital CEO Poul Blaabjerg.

Since 1998, Aarhus University Hospital has worked with development of the electronic health record. This platform has been important for development of the electronic health record systems in two other Danish regions.

- When we relocated parts of Aarhus University Hospital to our new facilities, we used this as an opportunity to apply digital solutions to manage patient flow and logistics and we have intensified our use of data. Today, we largely manage the hospital by data-driven solutions, says Chief Consultant Lars Ganzhorn Knudsen.

In late August, nine top managers from the Ministry of Health and Data in Brazil visited Denmark to study IT solutions in the Danish healthcare system. They spent two days at Aarhus University Hospital to learn how the hospital successfully manages patient flow digitally and how to communicate with patients using apps.

Aarhus University Hospital has the highest ranking among Danish hospitals at the ’World's Best Smart Hospitals 2023’ list and ranks as number 3 in Europe only surpassed by Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Germany.
